Tunisia Labour Market Inventory

This study was commissioned by the European Union and aims to inform stakeholders on the dynamics of the Tunisian labour market with a view to guarantee sustainable, targeted and relevant assistance. The purpose of this study is to identify the main issues related to employment at national level with a view to identifying priority areas for work for Tunisia's international partners. It is clear that, particularly in the Tunisian case, issues relating to employment and migration are closely interlinked and that a global understanding of the migration phenomenon requires an analysis of the economic fabric and socio-economic situation in communities of origin.

Thus the present study attempts to produce a summary report of the labour market situation in Tunisia with a view to identifying possible bilateral cooperation actions to be undertaken.

Drawing on a set of interviews conducted with important national labour market and migration actors, the study attempts to highlight the structural weaknesses of the Tunisian economy and thereby lay foundations for effective labour market support. This output will accordingly inform the development of EMM4 and EU-level assistance to migration policy-makers in Tunisia.
